Holy Name school students recently raised $854.47 for a great cause. The money is being given to Project New Horizons to help purchase a plane for Northwoods AirLifeLine. The plane will be used to transport critically ill patients to medical care that is not available in the Upper Peninsula area.

Holy Name students raised the money through several weeks of bake sales. Parents pitched in by providing the baked goods.

Students are very aware of the need for medical care for people with life-threatening problems. Teachers at Holy Name encourage students to pray daily for people we know in the area who are experiencing problems. “We try to keep students focused on helping people, whether it’s at our school or in the world at-large,’ stated Religious Education Coordinator Pam Mileski, coordinator of the drive at Holy Name. “Our students try to aid people through our Builders’ Club and various projects teachers do with students as part of their regular curriculum. Raising money for Project New Horizons was a natural extension of this.”

The check was presented to Project New Horizons co-chairman Al Salmi by Principal Barb Mead, and Holy Name students Kari LaMarch and Tom Gierke. Both students were treated to a tour of the new plane which just arrived this week.
